Smellsbury
Just my 2 cents but Ellsbury, or any other player, saying he wants to stay means nothing to me. What else do you really expect him to say? Ellsbury is a smart guy, he knows what to say and what not to say. Most of the time he avoided the media altogether.
Also, I hear this often. Pedroia is not injury prone. The guy had one season where he went down, besides that he is known for playing every day.
Besides that I'm more or less indifferent with Ellsbury except I do believe that the Yankees overpaid for speed that will eventually go away and power that doesn't exist.
I'm not saying I blame Ells for leaving, but there's almost not question that Pedroia left at least $50m on the table when he signed that extension this summer, and I think that's an incredibly conservative estimate. I think he would have gotten $180m pretty easily from somebody. Instead he took $110m to stay in Boston for 8 years. To correct what dtardif implied - Pedroia did not sign last offseason. He wasn't gonna reach free agency until after 2014, knowing that Cano was gonna set the bar in 2013, as he did. Pedey would not have gotten $240m, but he would have gotten tons more than what he took.
It really has to be the best long-term contract in baseball from a GM's perspective.
What stats do you think JBJ will produce next season? On par w/Nava/Gomes or better?
you confused?
There is a clip on youtube of the whole scene with all that stuff, but it's terrible quality unfortunately. You can barely see Jay's face, and his reaction is the whole point. Still worth watching for the great intro Timbaland gives it:
basquiat influenced or wut
There's nothing wrong with being influenced.
It's hard to fault the Yankees for it though. Seattle overpaid him by like a hundred million dollars. Cano followed the money (not that he necessarily should have, but he did).
WHY ARE WE ABLE TO SIGN SO MANY GREAT PLAYERS FOR RELATIVELY SHORT AND OR CHEAP CONTRACTS THANK YOU BASED BEN
Napoli projects to be a 2-3 win player. This deal is fine, but it's not a discount.
The money/year isn't particularly cheap obviously, but I guess I'm surprised it wasn't at least 3 years. Granderson is coming off an injury season and got 4 years.
